Media and technology firm Akoo International announced that it has joined the Digital Data Exchange, a digital media consortium whose board members include Apple Inc., EMI Music, Google, Nokia, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Akoo is the first media network in its category to become a member of DDEX.
DDEX's global standards are designed to help the digital media supply chain more efficiently exchange descriptive and commercial data about music, TV and video content. By implementing the standards, companies can increase efficiency, decrease costs, maximize revenues and reduce time to market, according to the DDEX.
The world's leading technology companies, rights societies, record labels, digital distributors, and digital retailers have begun implementing DDEX communications standards, according to the announcement, and Akoo is joining these companies in the commercial deployment of the DDEX standards.
"Akoo is very pleased to be an early mover in developing and commercially deploying DDEX standards," said Akoo Chief Technology Officer George Stoikos in the announcement. "This initiative helps our content partners – and ultimately our advertisers – more effectively connect with millions of consumers across the U.S."
Stoikos led the development of the patented interactive technology which powers Akoo's flagship television network.
Akoo's Nielsen-rated network is available throughout the U.S. in 161 "Akoo Pavilions," which attract 64 million consumers each month in highly-trafficked seating environments in shopping malls across the country. Akoo's proprietary interactive technology enables viewers to make on-demand content requests using their personal mobile devices and tablets. Akoo Pavilion visitors can also access Wi-Fi services, connect with friends via Facebook and Twitter, and receive geo-targeted mobile coupons and exclusive special offers.
