Arrow adds Seneca to quiver, taking aim at digital signage?

Global tech distributor picks up U.S.-based computer manufacturer, strengthening its digital signage footprint.

Yesterday, we learned that Arrow Electronics has acquired Seneca Data. We were only privy to a short letter sent out to some of Arrow's partners explaining the acquisition, so it appears that Arrow and Seneca are keeping this quiet for now.

Arrow is one of the bigger kids on campus when it comes to getting the technology to the market. The acquisition grows and strengthens their distribution channels. My guess is that both companies overlapped a bit in some places and with some clients, so this tightens that relationship.

For digital signage, Seneca is already deeply embedded, offering their products through partners likeScala, Rise Vision,Navori and SignageLive. In April, Kevin Cosbey joined Seneca fromAOpen, a sign that Seneca is taking digital signage seriously. While Arrow has been in the industry for some time, this is a signal that they see a lot of potential here. Bringing Seneca into the fold will certainly strengthen Arrow's footprint.

We continue to see companies combine forces to be complete solution providers to clients, and this one makes sense. One area both companies take enormous pride in is service, and coming from my own history, I can safely say that this is where the real rubber hits the road, especially when distributors are constantly battling for market share to get the gear to the client.
