We've all seen digital signage video walls by now — but who expects to be standing on one?
Pardon the commercial nature of the video below, but, while it is a commercial, it's also a great example of what you can do with digital signage. That, and it's funny, very funny.
LG Electronics put a video wall in *the floor* of an elevator; a video wall designed to look like the normal floor, until the floor falls away beneath whatever poor soul is riding in the elevator at the time.
(Editor's note: Yes, the "video wall" is made up of LG IPS computer monitors, but the effect is the same as if they were using commerical-grade digital signage products.)
According to ABC News, the viral video prank is an ad campaign from the Netherlands branch of Seoul, Korea-based LG electronics to promote the company's new IPS monitors:
And the ad was launched just in time for the scariest of holidays, Halloween.
With the tagline, "So Real, It's Scary, the nearly two-minute YouTube video shows riders' reactions as the IPS monitors display what appears to be the bottom of the elevator floor dropping out beneath them.
A spokeswoman for LG Electronics in the Netherlands, where the ad was launched, told ABCNews.com the video has been viewed more than 3 million times.
At last check, though, that number has jumped to more than 9 million views on YouTube alone.
And these days the image quality of good commercial-grade digital signage display really is close enough to real to really be scary.
