SCREEN MEDIA EXPO: Day One: RFID sees new possibilities with digital signage

London show's first day highlights triggered-content applications.

April 6, 2009

LONDON — The first day of Screen Media Expo in London was of course filled with the latest in screen hardware technology – positioned at the entry of the expo was Panasonic's 103-inch plasma at the signagelive booth and an ultra-thin bezel video wall from Samsung. But some of the most unique applications made use of RFID technology.

Signagelive, a U.K.-based software provider last year installed an RFID-enabled digital signage display for Estee Lauder, which is being demonstrated on the show. The solution is comprised of LCD screens and RFID-tagged products, which when picked up, play back video specific to the selected product along with cross-recommendation to other products in the range. Signagelive reps said that the solution had 800 customer interactions in the first two days it was installed.
