SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. — MediaTile, a provider of cellular digital signage solutions, today announced that Simon Wilson, MediaTile COO, has been promoted to CEO and member of the Board of Directors. Wilson joined MediaTile in January 2008 as its chief operating officer.

Former MediaTile CEO and chairman Keith Kelsen remains executive chairman of the board and said he will "increasingly focus his efforts on the company's longer-term vision and goals while evangelizing, educating and enhancing the world wide digital signage industry through speaking appearances and defining industry best practices."

Kelsen serves as the chairperson of the Content Best Practices committee for the Digital Signage Association.

"In his time here at MediaTile, Simon Wilson has clearly demonstrated his aptitude for operational excellence, leadership and delivery," Kelsen said. "With more than 200 networks in operation using MediaTile products and services, and many more in the pipeline, it is vital for us to apply more concentrated focus and energy to this critical role."

MediaTile chairman: The benefits of cellular digital signage
MediaTile specializes in cellular networking of digital signage and kiosks, has developed ‘Digital Signage in a Box' and ‘Kiosk in a Box' products, and also provides a SaaS platform for operating those solutions. Wilson said the company is a provider of cellular digital signage and kiosks to 15 distributors in 25 different countries.

In the U.S., MediaTile uses Sprint and Verizon cellular networks to control networks of kiosks and screens. Wilson said the advantage is that those solutions can be placed and managed anywhere, provided that area has cellular service, and that the devices don't require any IP infrastructure on location.

"The business opportunities for MediaTile's cellular digital signage technology and dynamic media services are tremendous," Wilson said. "Whether customers are running a small, private store network of 20 displays, or a corporate network of hundreds of displays across the globe, my goal is simple: to orchestrate the continued growth of MediaTile while delivering exceptional products and services that deliver true, and relevant, business value."

As COO, Kelsen said Wilson streamlined MediaTile's manufacturing and customer delivery systems to meet the growing demand for its popular and patent-pending cellular digital signage systems. He said under Wilson's direction, the company has dramatically improved systems, processes and delivery times for large customers, who require hundreds of displays in the best possible time.

Before joining MediaTile, Wilson was CFO and EVP of operations at SurfControl, a publicly-traded Internet content security company, where he guided the company through its acquisition by Websence in 2007. Prior to that he was a partner at KPMG, providing strategic advisory and M&A services to private and public software and IT services clients.
"The market outlook for digital signage and MediaTile is extremely bright," Kelsen said. "Other industries may be experiencing a slowdown, but with overall market growth is still in excess of 20 percent per year, this could be the tipping point for the digital signage industry."
