New digital signage touchscreen kiosk allows customers to count calories before they get in line to order.
June 17, 2013
At this year's National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago, NEC Display Solutions of America showcased a "Menu Wayfinder" digital signage kiosk that provides caloric information — and calorie counting — in restaurants, college dining halls and mall food courts.
The interactive touchscreen solution features content from Allure Global Solutions, a kiosk enclosure from Peerless-AV, and touch integration from TouchSystems, all NEC partner companies.
The kiosk allows customers to view a variety of menus in a single location, to see the caloric information of their meal choices, and to add up the calores of those food choices to see how many the total meal(s) will encompass.
"Everybody's being told we have to cut calories and you have to label calories," said Rich Ventura, NEC's director of sales-vertical solutions, at the show. "This is an alternative, fun way — but also a smart way — to communicate to your customers."
