From viral holiday house displays to hotels, themed attractions, and immersive commercial installations – this is the world of Magical Light Shows.
Founded by immersive creator Tom BetGeorge, Magical Light Shows is transforming projection mapping from a niche entertainment technology into an accessible creative medium for homeowners, hotels, theme parks, and public venues alike.
Magical Light Shows serves approximately 12,000 residential customers alongside a growing portfolio of commercial clients, delivering immersive visual experiences that blend projection mapping, synchronized lighting, music, lasers, and physical effects where architecture itself becomes part of the story.
Projection mapping has become an increasingly powerful creative layer within these experiences – not necessarily replacing physical lighting but amplifying it into something even more beautiful. By implementing BenQ’s high-brightness, color-accurate projection technology, Magical Light Shows is proving that immersive projection no longer requires blockbuster budgets, massive AV teams, or permanent installations.
Turning Houses & More into Storytelling Canvases
When Tom first began experimenting with synchronized holiday lighting in 2013, he quickly realized traditional lights alone couldn’t fully connect music, motion, and storytelling. Creatively, something felt missing.
“The music never felt fully in tune with the visuals,” Tom explains. “Projection mapping changed that completely because suddenly the entire house became part of the story.”
Within 48 hours of one early display going live, Magical Light Shows appeared on Good Morning America. National media attention followed almost immediately, and soon businesses, attractions, and entertainment venues began reaching out to Tom to create larger immersive experiences.
In one recent Halloween production inspired by Wicked, four BenQ AH500ST projectors transformed an entire home into a glowing green spectacle layered with animated visual effects. In a Christmas production, the team upgraded to four BenQ LK936ST projectors to deliver brighter, more detailed visuals across larger architectural surfaces.
Creating Immersive Experiences Without Permanent Installation
Projection mapping became essential for transforming complex spaces without physically modifying buildings. For many environments (hotels, theme parks, domes, artwork installations, historical buildings, and more), permanent lighting fixtures or physical construction either aren’t practical or weren’t allowed.
Projection offers a flexible, non-invasive way to completely elevate a space while still preserving its integrity. Unlike traditional lighting displays, projection mapping allows visuals to move dynamically across windows, rooftops, walls, and architectural surfaces, blending with physical décor in real time.
But most high-end projection mapping systems remained out of reach for many, given high price points and complexity. Magical Light Shows wanted to prove that immersive projection experiences didn’t have to remain limited to major theme parks or large-budget productions.
Why Magical Light Shows Selected BenQ Projectors
As projection became a larger part of the company’s immersive installations, Magical Light Shows evaluated projectors based on several critical requirements:
Accessibility and affordability for scalable deployments.
According to BetGeorge, BenQ emerged as the ideal fit.
“BenQ was the best value for brightness and performance. BenQ gave us the color accuracy we needed at brightness levels that actually work outdoors. Plus, being able to source BenQ projectors quickly and deploy them without specialized procurement changed everything.” - Tom BetGeorge, Magical Light Shows
Today, Magical Lights Shows uses multiple BenQ projector models depending on installation needs, including:
For Magical Light Shows, the relationship with BenQ extends beyond hardware procurement. During a recent hotel installation involving a 10,000-lumen setup with custom optics, BenQ’s engineering team directly assisted with projector mounting calculations, lens recommendations, and configuration support. That level of technical partnership, Tom says, is rare in the projector market.
The Future of Projection Mapping
While projection mapping has traditionally been viewed as technically difficult and reserved for major entertainment productions, Tom says advances in software and projection technology are rapidly changing the industry.
By combining projection mapping with synchronized lighting, music, lasers, and physical effects, Magical Light Shows creates immersive environments where audiences often can’t distinguish between physical décor and projected visuals.
“The future is combining technologies together so seamlessly that audiences stop thinking about the technology itself. They just experience the magic.” – Tom BetGeorge, Magical Light Shows
