VoxelSensors, a provider of sensing technology for Spatial and Empathic interfaces and Mobile, XR, and industrial applications, has announced Percept, a technology that leverages VoxelSensors' proprietary Single Photon Active Event Sensor technology (aka SPAES) to allow smart devices to sense user intention, according to a press release.

The technology provides eye tracking and spatial awareness capacity for wearable and mobile devices and is part of the VoxelSensors strategy of developing tools for "empathic computing," along with playing into the development of smart technologies designed to provide AI-powered interactivity with human users and customers — with potential future implementations of the tech category including use cases in industrial, retail, advertising, and digital signage applications, among others.

"VoxelSensors' Percept represents a paradigm shift, enabling devices to have empathic abilities," Boris Greenberg, VP of XR Solutions at VoxelSensors, said in the release. "This innovation transitions from on-demand interfaces to anticipatory ones, manifested in agents and unified user experience. These capabilities allow devices to comprehend user attention and intentions, enabling intuitive experiences through natural and anthropomorphic interactions with AI assistants."

"The future lies in Spatial and Empathic Computing, where VoxelSensors is one of the first to demonstrate the value of new functionality," Johannes Peeters, CEO at VoxelSensors, said in the release. "With VoxelSensors' Percept, we have unlocked a frontier by developing sensors that reliably perceive and understand user attention and intent in their environments. These abilities promise exciting new experiences surpassing anything we are familiar with today."

Johannes Peeters, co-founder and CEO at Voxel Sensors, joined Daniel Brown, editor at Networld Media Group, via video link from Brussels, Belgium, in June 2023 to discuss the company's vision along with the future of augmented reality technologies. Video: Networld Media Group.
