Virgin Megastore in NY adds new digital projection screen

NEW YORK — Epson, a supplier of value-added point of sale solutions, has announced a new addition to its digital marketing technology installation at Virgin Megastore's largest location in New York's Times Square. Virgin Megastores began promoting the recent release of NBC's "Heroes" first season in December with a hanging digital banner created by Epson to resemble the DVD box.
The Epson digital marketing solution includes an Epson projector, a custom acrylic screen created by Epson, a digital content management and distribution system, and content provided by NBC. The system allows for dynamic content change and can accommodate a variety of screen sizes and shapes. The rectangle-shaped digital banner is five feet long and hangs over the DVD section in the center of the store. The digital banner promotes the "Heroes" DVD to nearby shoppers by projecting select content from various episodes during the first season.
"We were looking for a highly visible way to attract shoppers to the latest DVD promotions in time for the holiday buying season," said Dee Mc Laughlin, vice president of marketing for Virgin Entertainment Group, North America. "The Epson digital banner lets us offer our media partner a fun and entertaining alternative to moving their product."
Epson's digital marketing applications allow the projection of digital content and images on any surface or shape, giving retailers many creative choices for promoting specific products. The Epson digital marketing solutions are controlled via remote wireless connections so program content may be updated remotely, freeing up store management to focus on immediate customer needs within the store. The Virgin Megastores digital marketing banner may be customized for other partner promotions in the future.
This is the second digital marketing application designed and implemented by Epson for Virgin Megastores in the Times Square location. In 2005, Epson partnered with GestureTek to build an interactive floor projection display that combines customer movement, sight and sound to create a dynamic, full-body interactive customer experience. Other Epson digital marketing applications have been deployed at Virgin Megastores West Coast flagship location at Hollywood and Highland in Los Angeles and at Downtown Disney, Florida's largest music and entertainment store.
