The University of Texas recently opened its Frank Denius Family University of Texas Athletic Hall of Fame at the Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The university worked with an experience creation firm Advent to create an interactive storytelling experience, which included a PixelFlex FLEXUltra LED video display for a video wall, according to a press release.
The 16 by 9-foot video wall tells the story of the college football team Texas Longhorn's culture and program through full motion HD video content and interactive content.
"It's an interesting space where one wall holds a significant number of National Championship trophies with a kinetic lighting installation as well," John Downie, VP of experience, Advent, said in the release. "The installation is unique in that the interactive systems driving the 16-by- 9 LED video wall are also tied into the lighting control system of the 'multi-modal' space. One mode provides modern, bench seating for visitors to dwell and appreciate the AV content on a daily basis, while the other mode enables the large space to accommodate thousands of fans who visit the space specifically on game-day."
The FLEXUltra display comes in a 16:9 ratio and features a 160-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle along with a 3840 Hertz refresh rate to eliminate on-camera scan lines and flicker.
"We can now realize seamless large format video displays much more effectively," Downie said. "The simplicity of installation and back-end infrastructure, as well as lower cooling and power requirements, gives us a tremendous opportunity to advocate for high-definition LED video displays where previously it just wouldn’t have been possible."
