TouchSystems adds 55-inch display with multitouch

April 23, 2013

The new X series from TouchSystems includes a 55-inch display with a multitouch screen to mimic smartphones and tablets.

The X55 is designed to run 24/7 and includes added thermal protection, internal temperature sensors with self-diagnostics and fan-based technology, the company said in a news release. The display is backlit by LED, which lowers power consumption and allows slimmer depth, and through a standardized expansion slot, commonly known as an Open Pluggable Specification slot, it can be integrated with third-party components such as single-board computers or media players. The infrared display offers at least six touch points and can integrate with sensors offering 12 or 32.

"Our customers are looking for more interactive solutions in larger sizes," TouchSystems President Carol Nordin said in a news release. "We aim to meet that demand by using newer technologies in our displays. These newer technologies result in multitouch capabilities, an important factor when seeking to create solutions that mimic smartphones or tablets."
