Sweden supermarket chain revamps flagship with digital signage

Swedish supermarket chain Maxi ICA has revamped its flagship store, Stormarknad Universitetet in the city of Orebro, with a major focus on retail digital signage via PPDS displays, according to a press release.

Part of the ICA group, a retail chain with 1,300 stores and over one third of market share, Stormarknad Universitetet has unveiled its digital makeover results, focusing on a Philips L-Line 7000 Series DVLED video wall, with approximate measurements of 52 feet in width and just under six feet in height. Designed with sustainability in mind, the video wall is estimated to be up to 20 percent more energy-efficient than comparable models, and it presides over a pick-and-mix center while being visible throughout the store.

The project also involved replacing almost all paper-based signage with Philips D-line 75-inch-to-86-inch digital displays, including 4K capable models.

The store owners stated their aim in part was to reduce paper waste and to become more sustainable, along with making messaging more timely and easy to update.

"Our goal is to be the No. 1 choice for a customer when it comes to purchasing food, which means that we have to provide them with a different experience," Erik Svedmark, store manager at Maxi ICA Stormarknad Universitetet, said in the release.

"The result of this collaboration set a new benchmark in the shopping experience with clear and seamless customer navigation and endless opportunities in content creation related to each department," Roeland Scholten, sales director for Benelux and Nordics at PPDS, added in the release. "We're delighted to have supported Maxi ICA in bringing their ambitions to life in this unique, forward-thinking store, where the customer experience really does come first."
