SED technology developing, but slowly

HDTVorg: SED technology (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display), an emerging display technology being developed jointly by Canon and Toshiba, is proving fiendishly difficult to produce. Even so, sources say the first commercially available SED panels should emerge by the end of 2007, with picture quality that is reportedly superior to both LCD and plasma.
