GOSHEN, Ind. — RedPost Inc., an Indiana-based tech startup, announced the launch of RedPost/Kit, a do-it-yourself digital photo frame kit targeted towards computer geeks. The kit uses the same technology as RedPost/Goshen, a network of 10 signs located around Goshen, Ind., that advertise upcoming arts events. RedPost/Goshen launched in May of 2007.
"RedPost/Kit allows anyone to set up their own digital sign or network of signs. They can also be used in your living room as a digital photo frame," said Eric Kanagy, founder of RedPost. "Within six months, we'd like to have a digital signage product your grandma can use. But for now, RedPost/Kit is such a unique product that we believe it'll stand out from the crowd and attract a following among geeks who are craving something like the Kit, but can't currently find it."
RedPost/Kit runs Linux software that is open source and fully accessible to any computer user. Any improvements made to the software by any user become freely accessible to everyone else via the SourceForge Web site, which hosts the RedPost/OpenSource project, the software that runs on the kit.
