LAS VEGAS — Panasonic, a division of the Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co., had all eyes yesterday when it introduced a prototype plasma screen that measures 150 inches (12.5 feet) across. at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The "Life Screen," as Panasonic has called it, is said to be the world's largest plasma display.
The new screen is considered HD, although the resolution of 4096 x 2160 is actually about four times better than the HD standard of 1080p.
Panasonic said the screen will be available in 2009, although a price has not yet been announced. Last year at the show, Sharp showed a 108-inch plasma that is yet to show up on the market.
Panasonic also showed a prototype 50-inch plasma that it says is half the weight and one-fourth as thin as its current models and a 42-inch model that it says reduces power consumption by half.
