Oslo digital signage wall the 'largest optically enhanced LCD video wall in Europe'

August 28, 2012

GDS Displays has installed what it says is the "largest optically enhanced LCD video wall in Europe" in Oslo Central Station, the most crowded railway station in Norway, according to a company release.

The brand new G-Wall installed in Oslo covers an area of nearly 60 square meters and is made up of 100 46-inch LCD TFT bonded displays operating as a single unit, the company said. The narrow bezels between the screens makes for a seamless view from long distance and for fast reading without interruptions.

Moreover, the new digital information board allows Jernbaneverket, or JBV, to quickly adapt the content depending on the situation, the company said.

"The performances of the video wall installed in September 2011 in National Theatre railway station in Oslo (25 46-inch LCDs) proved that G-Wall has been a very good choice, and that's why we decided to proceed with GDS as a partner for this challenging installation," said Geir Hagen, engineering manager of telecom at JBV, in the announcement. "Image quality, safety, serviceability of the product are crucial points, but of course long-term support and reliability are factors that we need to take into consideration when choosing a supplier."

According to GDS, the G-Bond lamination process applied to the video wall screens puts the content in higher contrast and makes it more readable in high ambient light areas. Moreover, the bonding technology improves the safety of the system by reinforcing the frontal surface of the glass and by keeping the pieces together in case of accidental breaks.

The mechanical frame and the bracket system have been designed to allow flexible and modular installations and easy access for service and maintenance.

The thermal management of the video wall has been designed to overcome the challenges of such a large system, to be able to manage the thermal micro-environment that it creates and to avoid "railway dust" that could become a problem with aging.
