Omnivex wins DIGI award for Norwegian bus network

October 16, 2008

NEW YORK — During a presentation ceremony at KioskCom/The Digital Signage Show, The Digital Signage Group announced the winners of the fourth annual DIGI Awards. Omnivex and Hatteland Vision won the award for Excellence in Technology — Best Digital Signage Rollout in a Public Venue, for their installation at Fjord1 Song Billag, in Norway.

This is the second consecutive year that an installation using Omnivex software has won a DIGI Award.

Fjord1 operates extensive transportation services throughout Norway, including ferries, ships, trucks and buses. The digital signage installation is on Fjord's bus operation, which includes over 400 buses as well as bus terminals. Hatteland Vision AS developed the project at Fjord1, using Omnivex software.
Hatteland was able to design an installation for the bus system that uses GPS data to trigger which content the software shows, based on the location of the bus. By highlighting points of interest and displaying information about the local area, content is always relevant to the passengers on the bus. Additionally, the digital signage is used to display real-time images of bus locations to people waiting in the station. This helps to ensure that people have a clear indication about when the next bus will arrive at the station.
Jeff Collard, president of Omnivex, was in New York City to accept the award.
"We are very pleased to have another winning entry this year and also congratulate our partners at Hatteland Vision on the win," Collard said. "Omnivex has been in the digital signage business for almost two decades, and we have been stressing the importance of using data to determine what content is displayed on the screens. This installation is a perfect example of the results that can be achieved by using data to make digital signage relevant to an audience."
