The New Jersey Department of Transportation is incorporating the state's signature brand of sarcasm in its creative for digital signage on public highways leading up to the holidays, according to a report from New Jersey 101.5.

"The Department wanted to be more creative in how we present our safety messages," Leanna Nelson, spokeswoman at NJDOT, said in the report. "We are trying a few new messages that are both fun and catchy in hopes that people will remember the message to drive safely."

Messaging in digital signage include references to holidays like Halloween, and NJDOT are open to suggestions from the public, including:

  • "Hocus pocus/drive with focus."
  • "We'll be blunt. Don't drive high."
  • "Get your head out of your app."
  • "Nice car, did it come with a turn signal?"
