Fort Wayne News-Sentinel: It's no crystal ball, but an ATM-like machine tucked inside an Evanston, Ill., mammography suite can help a woman assess her risk of breast cancer.
The touchscreen kiosk, called MyGenerations, helps create a personal family health tree, one of the most overlooked preventive health tools available. Users simply input basic information about themselves and immediate relatives, such as which family members were affected by cancer and at what age. In less than 15 minutes — unless the user needs to make a few calls to track down details — the computer prints out a family history of breast cancer, plus a personalized risk assessment. The machine also can provide screening guidelines for breast, colon, rectal, cervical, endometrial and prostate cancer.
