MRI releases solar reflective film to protect outdoor LCDs

July 16, 2009

Manufacturing Resources International, Inc. (MRI) announced a new Solar Rejection Film for all of its Outdoor BoldVu Digital Displays to provide protection against to direct sun exposure. MRI Engineering says the patent pending SRF has been proved to effectively reject up to 50 percent of harmful sun load, and resultant heat, before it reaches the surface of the LCD. This proprietary film is applied to the inside of the front safety/cover glass that protects the LCD surface from physical damage and exposure.

Direct sun exposure on an LCD screen is the top cause of "solar-clearing," which creates black spots or areas on the screen. Even at low ambient temperature conditions, solar load on the LCD surface can dramatically impact the performance and viewability of the display.

MRI said that another significant benefit of SRF is that by rejecting 50 percent of the sun load, it alleviates the workload of the cooling requirement for the digital display.
