Magewell, a video interface and IP workflow solutions provider, has announced its Pro Convert H.26x to HDMI multi-protocol, secure-reliable-transport compatible streaming media decoder. The device can decode a standard H.264 or H.265 compressed video stream into a HDMI output for monitors, projectors and switchers, according to a press release.

It can decode streams up to 2,160-by-1,200 at 60 frames per second over its HDMI 2.0 interface. OIt also comes with built-in FPGA-based video processing to up-convert HD or 2K source streams into 4K. Other features include:

  • DHCP-based network configuration.
  • Can detect video and audio characteristics via EDID metadata.
  • Can be powered via external adapter or power-over-Ethernet.

"While dedicated AV-over-IP technologies get a lot of attention and are ideal for many applications when used on robust networks, a lot of customers are already generating live H.264 or H.265 streams in distribution-friendly protocols and wish to incorporate them into their presentation and display workflows," James Liu, vice president of engineering at Magewell, said in the release. "The Pro Convert H.26x to HDMI complements our NDI encoders and decoders, which are often used in conjunction with internal networks, by enabling users to leverage common streaming protocols internally or over the public internet."
