The scent of buttered popcorn isn't necessarily the first — or probably last — thing that visitors to KioskCom and The Digital Signage Show expected to smell on the show floor.
But the new AdOasis 6-D multisensory digital signage kiosk also uses smell to attract attention.
AdOasis has trademarked what it's calling its 6-D, or six-dimensional, marketing, says product strategist Jackie Greenblatt.
It's six-dimensional, so what it is, is it engages all the human senses: sight, sound, scent, taste, touch, plus thought," she said.
The freestanding kiosks are most likely to be used for advertising and wayfinding functions, but they're also designed to be equipped with misting stations or heating coils to cool or warm patrons, depending on the weather.
The displays can be static, or the units can be equipped with an LCD display that end-users can use to sell advertising or show live video to patrons. Greenblatt says car dealerships can use the kiosks to display inventory and provide information on days they're closed, or restaurants can use them as both advertising and heating/cooling stations for smoking patrons who have to move outside to smoke, while displaying a sporting event on the kiosk screen.
