James Earl Jones Theatre unveiled with digital display, modern features

The Schubert Organization has unveiled the James Earl Jones Theatre after a $47 million restoration project that includes a façade-mounted LED display system, according to a press release.
Previously known as the Cort Theatre, the former vaudeville venue features a grand staircase, modernized rigging and modernized seating in addition to the outdoor display manufactured by SNA Displays and installed by Going Sign Company, according to the release.
"The James Earl Jones Theatre sign was custom designed and fabricated to meet viewing angle requirements, providing ample read times from the east and west on 48th Street," Mikell Senger, senior project manager for SNA Displays, said in the release. "We're proud to be a part of this legendary theater's history as we continue to add to our theater and Times Square portfolio."
The theater was renamed in honor of award-winning film and stage actor James Earl Jones, whose first show at the Cort, "Sunrise at Campobello," ran in 1958, one year after his Broadway debut.
"I spoke my first line ever on Broadway in this theater," Jones said during a private tour of the renovated theater, according to the release.
