Island lands digital signage kiosk for tourism

May 29, 2014

Island Interactive, a digital advertising firm in Amelia Island, Florida, worked with York, Pennsylvania-based Livewire Digital to rethink the way Amelia Island delivers information to tourists, resulting in tablet-based digital signage kiosks to be placed around the island, according to an announcement from Livewire Digital. "Tourists to the island are already using phones and tablets to find the information they need to get around, so why not use interactive technology in hotels?" Livewire Digital CEODavid McCracken said in the announcement. "We helped Island Interactive tap into visitors existing digital behavior by creating tourism-specific applications available via on-site tablets." With almost 500,000 visitors annually to the island, information about events, attractions, recreation, weather and restaurants is in high demand, according to the announcement, and the tourist tablets are intended to provide a user-friendly guide to the island's visitors.

The new interactive tablets run Livewire Digital's eConcierge Content Management System, created specifically for applications in the hospitality industry. The tablets are secured within a podium-style kiosk, and are designed to be used by guests in hotels, resorts, conventions centers, restaurants and other area attractions. The eConcierge kiosk is designed to replace piles of literature, posters and flyers that previously cluttered lobbies, waiting areas and entry areas, the company said.

Tourists can also scan a QR Tag for the websites for even more information and can now get coupons sent straight to their mobile devices so they no longer have to take a brochure with them. In addition there is information on weather, dining, activities, local attractions, shopping and so much more, according to the announcement. Island-Interactive provides digital advertising for their clients on the tablets so all of the local businesses have the opportunity to reach out to tourists with their products and services.

"We are very pleased with what Livewire Digital provided. The flexibility of their content management system for the tablet kiosks allows us to keep all information current so our visitors see all that Amelia Island has to offer," Island Interactive President and CEO Brian Bibb said in the announcement.
