PPDS, the global distribution arm for Philips Professional Display Solutions, has announced its participation in the inaugural Education Mega Draw CSR Programme by SchoolComputers.ie, a specialist reseller and PPDS partner based in Ireland, including the donation of a 65-inch PPDS interactive touch display to an Irish elementary school, according to a press release.
In a competition among 4,000 Irish schools, Gaelscoil Mhichíl Uí Choileáin in Clonakilty (West Cork) won the technology makeover, estimated to be worth €20,000 ($22,000). In addition to the PPDS display, the program included donation of 30 Chromebooks, a 32-port charging cart, an all-in-one printer for the school's ASD unit (which provides special care for students on the autism spectrum) and a desktop scanner.
A company representative added via email that additional charity participants included AOC, Canon, Lenovo, Fujitsu and Manhattan.
A celebration of the competition victory included attendance by Olympian Gary O'Donovan.
"This is unbelievable," Pádraig Ó hEachthairn, principal at Gaelscoil, said in the release. "To think that our school, out of over 4,000 schools in Ireland, has won this prize, is truly amazing. Just like Clonakilty itself, our school is growing year on year, and this requires us to have more tech resources for our pupils."
A video of the celebration at the school, including interviews with school officials and students, is available below.
