InfoComm11: Christie drops interactivity kit for DOOH displays

June 14, 2011

According to Christie, the latest trend in digital signage is to give consumers the touchscreen-like experience of their smartphones. Consumers want to not just see the message, but also to interact with it and even be part of it, a Christie spokeswoman said today in announcing the new Christie i-Kit touch and interactivity kit.

The new interactivity kit "is the easiest, most cost-effective way to incorporate touch-screen technology into any large-format display without a major overhaul of the signage hardware," she said.

"Attach it to the perimeter of a display up to 16 feet by 6 feet, install the Christie JumpStart software on any Windows 7 machine, connect the media server, and you're ready to go," she said. "Your signage now has that 'wow factor' that makes consumers stop, look and touch."

Global visual technology company Christie, which introduced MicroTiles to the digital signage space, today unveiled both the Christie i-Kit touch interactivity kit – powered by Baanto ShadowSense – and the Christie JumpStart software and media server, both on technology preview at the Christie InfoComm booth through June 17.

According to an announcement from Christie, its i-Kit allows end-users to "pinch, flick, rotate and scroll through touch Interactivity." The i-Kit allows multiple users to interact simultaneously with a rectangular video wall with sufficient resolution and speed to support finger-based gestures, Christie said.

The Christie i-Kit has a one-year parts and labor limited warranty with demonstration units available in October, according to the announcement from Christie.

Christie JumpStart is an affordable and high-performance front-end content solution aimed at delivering content to 5- to 10-megapixel tiled digital displays such as Christie MicroTiles. JumpStart is targeted to designers, system integrators and rental/stagers in architecture, out-of-home advertising and event production, according to the announcement.
