INFOCOMM: Digital signage, A/V integrators meet to discuss market future
June 18, 2008
LAS VEGAS — For digital-signage exhibitors,InfoComm 2008is shaping up to be what they had hoped for: A marketplace to connect with A/V integrators.
"It's really a big A/V show, but that's great for digital signage, since most of our resellers are in the A/V market," said Dick Trask, director of marketing and public relations forScala.
The connection between A/V systems integrators was also the focus of the Digital Signage Luncheon on Wednesday. Around 150 integrators, digital-signage providers and others interested in installing digital signage gathered to network and hear presentations from industry experts.
Lyle Bunn, a digital-signage consultant and strategy architect with BUNN Co., told attendees digital signage is nothing more than the exploitation of light, something that has been done since the beginning of time.
In the future, Bunn sees employee-facing digital-signage systems continuing their growth, something of interest to A/V integrators who have installed systems in office buildings and schools.
"Up until now, there has been a push from the technology suppliers for digital-signage installations," Bunn said. "This year, the scale has been tipped and the market is now contacting the providers looking for digital signage."
Dr. Randal Lemke, executive director of InfoComm International, echoed Bunn's statements on the cohesion of the digital signage and A/V markets.
"These inward-facing applications are really the sweet spot for integrators," Lemke said. "In that field they can go up against most companies, because they already have relationships with the universities and companies."
