In Tokyo, teamLab — a collective of programmers, mathematicians, architects, artists, CG animators, designers, and editors — teamed up with Gucci to create an interactive digital art installation titled "Infinity of Flowers."
The installation, which ran throughout the month of September at the Gucci Shinjuku store in Tokyo, was not simply a visual recording. Rather, it utilized a computer program to show a real-time visual of the growth and death of a large digital mural of flowers, generating the artwork in real time. Viewers could see the flowers grow, bud and bloom, then slowly wither and die before finally fading away.
In addition, the installation's interactive element allowed viewers to touch the screen and cause the flowers to dance in unison.
According to the teamLab website, "Overall, the flowers never reach a state previously shown before, and since they are also influenced by the behavior of the viewers, the artwork continuously changes in appearance. What you can see right now will never be repeated again in the future."
