INFiLED recently transformed the lobby of Germany's oldest surviving theater into an immersive visual experience with a 70-meter LED installation.
The display project turned the theater entrance at the Volksbühne at Rudolfplatz into a pre-show gallery, according to a press release.
The installation was created by the production company behind Himmel und Kölle (Heaven and Cologne) — whose run at the theater lasts until the end of March — in collaboration with al-media. The comedy-musical was named Cologne's cultural event of the year in 2021 and has since received four musical and theater awards.
The producers of Himmel und Kölle wanted audiences to feel immersed in the world of the story from the moment they entered the foyer of the Volksbühne. To achieve this, the production company commissioned, from Berlin-based comic book artist Fufu Frauenwahl a series of vibrant illustrations depicting a whirlwind tour of Cologne for the gallery-style environment.
Al-media was tasked with bringing this vision to life, with the creative concept centered on LED displays arranged as vertical pillars.
INFiLED supported the project by providing its LED technology as well as all-important hands-on local support. A key factor for al-media was the availability of INFiLED's WP Series — stocked in its European warehouse in Rotterdam, which removed long lead times and allowed the project to progress without delay.
The LED system's adjustable brightness and calibrated color also allowed it to integrate effectively with the existing indoor lighting.
"We're very happy with INFiLED's support; the short delivery time in particular convinced us. We are certain that choosing INFiLED was a better value and better option overall than any alternatives," André Lyrmann, CEO of al-media, said in the release.
