IAdea launching new SMIL Open API digital signage appliances

July 19, 2010

IAdea has announced that it is launching a new series of digital signage devices based on the W3C SMIL Open API. System integrators can quickly put together an ideal solution using the new devices, the company says. IAdea's new media appliances, like its predecessors, are compatible with the XML-based open standard SMIL script format. SMIL technology is especially suitable for the typical digital signage application, allowing users to create simple screen layouts in fewer than 50 lines of code. Traditional Windows-based digital signage development can take ten times more effort and resources. IAdea is targeting the new devices especially for local software developers in the APAC/ASEAN area (China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Phillipines, Signapore, Indonesia) where the cost of traditional digital signage hardware has been prohibitive. IAdea's devices have significant cost advantages for equivalent performance, the company says.
