GDS files patent for optically enhanced large TFT display

July 24, 2005

ROSCOE,Ill.: Global Display Solutions has filed a patent application for its ‘first-to-market' optically enhanced large TFT display. This innovative display is readable in full sunlight, has extremely high resolution and is designed to operate 24 hours a day. The display is ideal for use in outdoor applications such as railway stations, airports, bus stations and other passenger information display functions.

The European patent request was registered May 11 and is based on certain aspects of the display's design, such as the panel and monitor cooling system, the mechanical chassis system, the optical improvement system and other related concepts.

GDS's new display uses optimal contrast values, which can overcome all previous temperature and reliability limitations experienced by outdoor displays. GDS has used its extensive experience in developing monitors for ATM machines to design this unique display. The display utilizes similar technology to the ATM monitors, but on a much larger scale.

The casing of the display has been made to IP65 standard, which guarantees total protection from dust and low pressure water from all directions. The quality of the graphics on the display is extremely high, operating at 1366x768 resolution.

Marco Cohen, sales and marketing manager at GDS, said: "Here at GDS we have a reputation for being at the cutting edge of new technology and it is important to us to go that extra mile in providing the very best display possible for certain applications. GDS is the world leader in outdoor displays and this is an area that we pride ourselves on. The fact that we have applied for a patent to cover this new display demonstrates how unique the technology is."
