GDS Displays awarded four-year deal with Norway Rails

GDS Displays has announced that it recently won a public tender to supply LCD digital signage screens to Norway Railways.
The deployment includes 32-inch and 46-inch sunlight-readable displays to be used outdoors to display train timetables and other related information, while 65-inch screens will be supplied for semi-outdoor applications, GDS Displays says.
The contract with Norway Railways calls for GDS Displays to supply units over a four-year period.
The displays, to be manufactured in GDS facilities in Italy and Romania, deliver highly-contrasted content as well as high image quality, the company says. An ambient light sensor is used to continually sample light levels, and screen brightness is adjusted to ensure comfortable viewing at all times. Vandalism-proof glass optically bonded directly to the LCD alleviates back-of-glass reflection and condensation issues while also giving the displays protection against physical damage, the company says. An internal PC with Linux operating system, plus built-in diagnostics, thermal management and remote control allows for stand-alone operation of the displays with no additional enclosures or ancillary cooling systems required.
"This is a very important contract win that builds on the successes already achieved by our … daylight-readable displays in similar applications," GDS Displays COO Richard Swetman said.
