Former Wal-Mart exec to speak at retail conference

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio Bob Martin, independent business executive and former president and chief executive of Wal-Mart International, is scheduled to speak at the IBM Retail User Group Conference. The IBM Retail User Group is holding its 30th Annual Conference at the J. W. Marriott Resort in Las Vegas, May 20-23.
 
Martin serves on the boards of directors of several public companies and private institutions. He is scheduled to discuss how technology has changed the rules of competition and how it is now changing the corporate culture.  
 
Martin will also discuss his perspectives on using technology to make innovation pay and on the missed opportunities when retailers don't take risks.
 
Martin was one of the founders of the IBM Retail User Group in 1977. In 1973 Martin installed the first IBM Retail POS system when he was chief information officer of Dillard's Department Store.
