FIFA has partnered with Papercast to supply e-paper wayfinding and passenger information at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to a press release.

Adding an element of sustainability to the digital signage roundup for the event to an estimated 1.5 million sport fans, Papercast estimates the deployment to be one of the largest e-paper deployments in the world, with e-paper screens provided by E Ink, the inventors of the technology.

As part of the infrastructure upgrades packaged in the Qatar National Vision 2030 project, the e-paper will remain active after the World Cup, serving subway, bus and tram passengers and is designed with an eye to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

"We are thrilled to be part of the most followed sporting event in the world and an exciting time for Qatar as it works to build the foundations for future growth," Robert Bicket, CEO at Papercast, said in the release. "We celebrate our largest contracted order to date, and the fact that our e-paper displays were selected to meet the rigorous requirements and challenges that a project of this caliber demands."
