Luis von Ahn, founder of language app Duolingo, has invested in the Swedish tech company Desquare AB, the developer behind the digital signage platform Designage.

Designage is a cloud-based platform for digital signage that is already used by leading Nordic customers in retail, real estate and F&B including Starbucks, Nationalmuseum and Fabege, among others.

The investment is being made through a Swedish consortium led by IT entrepreneur Martin Norström, CEO of Norteam, according to a press release.

"We invested because their platform not only matches the best in the industry — it outperforms them in both simplicity and innovation," Norström said in the release.

For Desquare, von Ahn's involvement means not only capital but also a heavy international trust.

"We are incredibly proud of the confidence shown by Luis von Ahn, Martin Norström and other investors. It is a strong acknowledgement that our product has global potential. We have built a cloud-based SaaS service for digital signage from scratch with good response from our customers — and now the investment allows us to scale up and launch fully, both in Sweden and internationally," Peter Brauner, CEO and founder of Desquare AB, said in the release.

Desquare is strengthening its advisory board with representatives from the investor consortium.
