Digital signage firm Captive now Codigo

September 5, 2012

Captive Indoor Media LLC announced that the company is changing its name to Codigo LLC, effective today. The decision to align the company's name with its signature online marketing platform, Codigo, is a move toward both simplicity and individuality, the company said.

Digital signage solution provider Codigo, formerly Captive, has a history mostly in the financial industry, but the company said it also has worked on projects for major hotel chains, nationwide quick-service restaurants, college campuses and health care facilities.

"We felt that our previous name limited us in many respects. Not only was it easily confused with other companies in the marketplace, but we were having difficulty creating a brand that allowed for the launch of new products," said company founder and CEO Brian Nutt. "There are a lot of competitors in our industry that utilize the word captive in some way, yet our primary product was called Codigo. It was inherently confusing."

The process to change the name began in February, and more than 200 names were presented before the company settled on the name of its most high-profile product, Codigo.

"Over the past 10 years, we have built a brand around our digital signage product, Codigo," Nutt said. "Every day, hundreds of customers log into Codigo. In fact, many of them already refer to us as Codigo. This change allows us to streamline our brand message and consolidate name references to what our customers have known us as for years."
