LAS VEGAS — The Digital Signage Association hosted its first Advisory Board and Charter Membership Meetings on Tuesday in conjunction with Digital Signage Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 24 Advisory Board members discussed ways to advance the Association as well as the digital signage industry in general.
The Advisory Board is made up of representatives from digital signage technology and solutions vendors and resellers, as well as representatives from companies that have deployed digital signage.
Board members agreed that the digital signage industry is growing and that there are many new entrants, which means positive momentum as well as some potential confusion as players jostle for name recognition and to launch new technology.
Many of the Board members expressed an interest in working to reach more deployers, saying that at this point digital signage is considered "a nice-to-have rather than a need-to-have" medium for those companies.
Objectives of DSA |
- Promote the use of digital signage - Become a voice in and for the industry - Inform members of industry happenings - Create market awareness in other industries - Help members operate more profitably - Help members find solutions to common problems and boost ROI - Increase public acceptance of digital signage |
Some Board members were enthusiastic, while others warned against using Association time to set standards, as it may be an impossible task, particularly if people have different agendas. Those members did agree that developing best practices for the digital signage industry was a good use of time.
Dick Good, CEO of NetWorld Alliance, which owns and operates the association, addressed the development of committees to be formed within the Association. Committees targeted were best practices, membership and marketing.
At the Charter Membership meeting, David Drain, executive director of the Digital Signage Association, briefed a crowd of about 50 on the Association and the Digital Technology Alliance, which is an organization that brings together the DSA and Self-Service & Kiosk Association with plans of involving other groups.
