Daktronics to deploy digital signage for Marshall U's Thundering Herd

Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics Inc. today announced that it has been chosen by Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., and ISP Sports to upgrade several facilities on campus with new light emitting diode (LED) video and scoring technology.
"These facilities upgrades will enhance our fans' overall game day experience at all of our athletic venues," Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick said.
The largest upgrade will be at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, home to Thundering Herd football. Two large video displays will be installed at the stadium. Replacing the existing video display, the larger of the two displays will measure approximately 28 feet high by 49 feet wide. A second display will be installed on the athletic building at the south end zone, measuring about 22 feet high by 32 feet wide and flanked by two ribbon displays each 82 feet in length. The displays can be used for live video and instant replays during football games, as well as for entertaining the crowd, showing up-to-the-minute statistics and showcasing sponsors.
A custom sound system will be the finishing touch to the stadium. When combined with the video display, the new Daktronics audio system will deliver pounding bass energy, smooth mid- and high-range frequencies and high-impact entertainment through the integration of audio, video and scoring technology. The system uses the latest in digital audio technology, and it also operates on reduced power thanks to more efficient digital amplifiers and power supplies.
Daktronics will also be providing a new ribbon display and two new courtside displays to be installed in the Cam Henderson Center, home to Marshall University basketball and volleyball. The ribbon display will measure approximately 92 feet in length and feature pixels spaced at 20 mm. The two courtside displays, which will be in addition to the four scorer's tables currently installed in the center, will measure approximately 20 feet in length and will be able to be controlled independently or together with the current displays.
Sam Hood Field, where Thundering Herd soccer plays its home games, will have two new fixed digit soccer scoreboards. One scoreboard will measure eight feet high by 18 feet wide, and the other was custom built to measure three feet high by 19 feet wide. Both will keep fans up to date with all of the shots, saves, fouls and corner kicks taken during the game.
Dot Hicks Field, home to Marshall University softball, will receive a new message display. With pixels spaced at 34 mm, this monochrome display will allow more opportunities to recognize sponsors during games and keep the crowds attending the games informed.
Included in the project is Daktronics' new Show Control System, which offers users a merger of control software, data integration, playback hardware and image processing technology to form a single, comprehensive production solution.
