Comhear wins patent for surround sound method

December 19, 2016

Comhear, an audio technology company, has been awarded a patent for its speaker signal processing method. The method is designed to create an immersive 3D surround sound, according to a press release.

The process uses inverse filters to deliver "beams of sound" to users, creating a binaural virtual surround sound, similar to a concert or virtual reality, according to the release. Comhear has integrated the technology into its MyBeam speaker array, a small speaker bar.

MyBeam is designed to replace multi-speaker deployments with one speaker bar. Comhear offers MyBeam as a consumer product and a ProAV product for digital signage, kiosks, displays, lobbies and more.

"We are excited that our innovative methods to produce a truly immersive audio experience for listeners have received patent protection," Perry Teevens, CEO of Comhear, said in the release. "We are breaking new ground in audio technology, changing the way listeners experience sound in all media formats."
