CETWorld: Educational programming and special events
September 12, 2010
The Customer Engagement Technology World show this November (formerly the KioskCom Self Service Expo and the Digital Signage Show) in New York City will feature a bevy of educational programs and special events.
From the announcement of the winning entry in the "Next Big Idea" contest from Coinstar Inc. to the educational sessions in the Tech Talk Theater to the Harris-sponsored "Cooking Up Content: From Concept to Screen" series led by digital signage guru Lyle Bunn — all in addition to the conference sessions — the show should offer plenty for all industries involved in customer engagement technologies, from kiosks to digital screen media.
At the show Coinstar will announce the winner of its annual "Next Big Idea" contest for the best new concept in retail-based kiosks, to whom it will award $10,000. Coinstar says it's looking to reward entrepreneurs with great ideas (already built or not) for a self-service solution, and to identify high-potential companies for possible future investment.
According to the contest website, the winning entry will have the potential to shake up the market for its product or service by offering great value to consumers and retailers alike. Contest submissions should address a unique need, like the Coinstar coin-counting machine, or solve a consumer problem, such as the redbox DVD-rental machines, by offering superior convenience. Entries are due by September 30, and Coinstar is accepting submissions here.
This fall's "Cooking Up Content" will be a little different than the version participants saw at the last KioskCom show in the spring. Each session in the spring was devoted to one stage in the development of content for digital signage campaigns, with three speakers each presenting at each session — with all the sessions combing to provide a beginning-to-ending look at the content-creation process. This iteration of the show staple will instead feature more self-contained sessions, with one presenter taking participants through the process from beginning to end in each session, according to show manager Lawrence Dvorchik.
According to the Customer Engagement World website, the educational program provides advertisers, agencies, brands, networks, venues, and media buyers and sellers the opportunity to grasp the content development process, including strategy, creation, ROI metrics and content refinement strategies:
"Cooking Up Content provides attendees with a more thorough understanding of what they will need to bring to a strategy meeting, and what will be required along the way for a successful campaign," the website says. "Focused on real-life deployed projects from retail to transportation, from arenas and other public venues to hospitals and more, attendees will walk away from each presentation with details of the project's strategic briefing, content development, final spots, metrics, and content refinement strategies."
The Tech Talk Theater sessions are open to all attendees at the show. The Tech Talks will be featured each day in the theaters on the exhibit floor, with interactive discussions led by industry experts addressing important customer engagement issues and hot topics. Seating is limited, but is open to all registered attendees.
The show also will again this year feature the SocialSphere, where conference participants can meet with media relations specialists to learn about maximizing social media tools for their business — and next door in the Bloggers Zone, Internet-based journalists and bloggers will have a home base to update their sites with the action from the show.
And "Cooking Up Content" moderator Lyle Bunn also will be busy presenting his SPEED Digital Signage Training program (separate registration required). The "how-to" program focuses on improving the planning, launch, deployment and use of digital signage. The training is held in two sessions, with the first held Nov. 10 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and the second Nov. 11 from 1:30-3 p.m. Go here for more information.
Customer Engagement Technology World is being held Nov. 10-11 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.
