Baltimore's Penn Station and its surroundings have gotten a digital signage image rehab, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The train station, which sees 2 million travelers every year, sits amidst closed-down industrial building and dilapidated neighborhoods, "some of Baltimore's bleakest landscapes," according to The Sun.

But Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake last week formally unveiled a billboard-sized sign including an LED digital signage screen that is visible from the train platform. The new sign is part of the city's efforts, working with Amtrak, to spruce up the station and its environs, the newspaper said. The LED display was provided by Wichita, Kansas-based firm InCite LED, according to an email from InCite.

"This is the front door for the city and when you have your front door, you want to make an excellent first impression and we haven't been doing that in Baltimore," Rawlings-Blake said at the unveiling, according to CBS Baltimore.
