Aldeasa expands Barcelona Airport digital signage network

August 4, 2009

AS Video and Match Ingeniería de Sistemas have completed the next phase of Aldeasa's retail digital signage network at Barcelona International Airport. The network is powered by Scala digital signage software.
Aldeasa first launched its digital signage network in its duty free stores in Spain's Palma de Mallorca airport in Dec. 2008 as part of the first phase of a global rollout program. Phase two involves adding signage to three more stores, this time at Barcelona International Airport.
The two key objectives of the Aldeasa digital signage network are, first, to provide a digital channel for Aldeasa to promote its brand, its products and services to its customers; and second, to provide a viable commercial platform for generating incremental supplier revenues from ad sales.
In phase one, 16 screens were rolled out into the Aldeasa store at Palma de Mallorca covering a high footfall duty-free zone with nine screens, and six screens placed around the rest of the store. A large rear-projection screen is located near the front of the store to display messages into the airport concourse to attract customers.
Messages at the new Barcelona International location are delivered on 13 40- to 42-inch LCD displays in both portrait and landscape mode, as well as two 57-inch free-standing LCDs in portrait mode. There are also two video walls comprising six and four 42-inch displays.
The 42-inch and 57-inch portrait displays deliver store information and special offers, while several 40-inch screens above the checkouts serve as specific product promotion.
"Aldeasa wanted screens to provide dual use functionality, to promote key offers and at the same time help customers to identify available checkouts quickly and easily. Scala's ability to manage multiple content items on a single display meant that this was straightforward to implement. In doing so, we were also able to keep the ceiling clear of other way-finding signage and maintain a visually clean checkout area," said Javier Menendez, ASVideo's sales general manager.
