Advantech launches 'iRetail' terminal

May 29, 2014

Advantech, a Taiwan-based developer of intelligent systems for industrial and retail applications, has launched the UTC-620E, a multifunction digital signage kiosk and self-service terminal for "iRetail" applications. With its 21.5-inch portrait full-HDdisplay, the UTC-620E is designed for reading content-rich applications, Advantech said on its website.

The terminal uses the fourth-generation Intel Core U-series (i5/Celeron) processor, and fits comfortably on shelves and countertops, the company said. It is currently available for trials and will be rolled out in August 2014.

The UTC-620E includes a range of peripherals such as a 5-Megapixel camera with built-in microphone, magstripe reader, RFID reader, 2D Barcode scanner and soft-keys for applications such as order entry, check-in, and guided selling.

According to Advantech, the UTC-620E features a slim design with a durable aluminum bezel. It includes a projective capacitive touchscreen providing a multitouch solution along with a built-in WiFi antenna and I/O covers. Users have the choice of either embedded Linux or embedded Microsoft Windows 7/8 operating systems.

Advantech said that the UTC-620E is designed to help retailers bring digital channels to the retail floor, as it allows shoppers to visually browse a virtual catalog of the retailer’s products.
