4M Carbon Corp. is finalizing a letter of intent with Montefibre Cargon to establish a partnership to develop low-cost industrial-grade carbon fiber. Montefibre will combine its large tow precursor with 4M's patented fiber production technology, which reduces the initial investment of a carbon fiber manufacturing line by up to 50%, according to a press release.
4M's technology helps deliver operating cost savings of more than 30%, whereas Montefibre's technology reduces carbon fiber precursor cost by increasing volume throughout the fiber.
"4M and Montefibre's JV addresses the biggest issues preventing large-scale adoption of carbon fiber for industrial applications that will benefit greatly from the strength and light weight of carbon fiber," Garo Artinian, 4M board member and chief advisor, said in the release.
