3M signs patent license agreement for metal mesh tech with Dai Nippon Printing

June 11, 2019

3M and 3M Innovative Properties Co. have signed a patent license agreement with Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. to use 3M's metal mesh technology.

Customers can use the technology to construct projected capacitive touch sensors for consumer devices, digital signage, kiosks, interactive whiteboards and other tools, according to a press release.

3M will give DNP a royalty-bearing patent license as part of the agreement.

"We are pleased to add Dai Nippon Printing to our growing list of licensees and look forward to expanding our relationship in the coming months and years," Makoto Ishii, vice president and general manager, display materials and systems division, 3M, said in the release. "We will continue to expand our licensing program to enable authorized use of our patented technology by more customers as we defend our intellectual property rights against unauthorized use by metal mesh manufacturers."
