A note from the new editor

September 13, 2022

Hello! I'm Daniel Brown, the new editor of Digital Signage Today.

I have a bit of a unique background from many of my colleagues, as I did not receive traditional journalistic training. Instead, I took my degree in English and had an unusual professional career including farm work, fast food and restaurants, retail sales management and education (teaching and consulting). More recently, I spent a few years working in IT at an Ivy league research institution, with a focus on digital signage, technical documentation, and Tier 3 support for Research Computing and Instrumentation. It's been a heck of a journey! What I'm excited to bring to DST is a unique perspective from a diverse career where I have seen the impact of digital signage in connecting human beings in vastly different settings and sectors.

Like Dirk Gently, the wonderful detective created by Douglas Adams, I'm fascinated by interconnectedness, and I'm passionate about the intersection of technology, communication and social progress in this industry, particularly in the new and evolving ways technology connects people and organizations. We'll be taking a close look at emerging technologies (like holograms, AI, VR and AR and the IoT), highlighting new strides in accessibility and inclusion and following the breakneck progress of sustainability and green tech as the industry embraces massive emerging markets and communities, notably in Europe, East Asia and African nations.

I feel that this background helps me find the novel connections between the many areas where digital signage touches our lives in the modern world. When I'm not doing interviews and curating stories on digital signage, I'm an avid tech junkie, gamer, writer and photographer, in addition to being a lifelong and omnivorous reader. I also love British television (Q.I. forever!)
