Building digital signage systems can be a major challenge. It can be a major challenge to find the right mix of hardware, software and cloud services that all work well together. But thankfully there are solutions that can make it significantly easier to deploy a digital signage system, such as operating systems purpose built for digital signage.

Panelists during a free webinar sponsored by SpinetiX on Digital Signage Today entitled "Digital signage made easy finding the right OS," discussed a ready-to-use solution called SpinetiX NUC Signage Appliance that combines a media player with a cloud-based OS. Bradley Cooper, editor of Digital Signage Today, moderated this panel with George Preston, VP of sales, North America, SpinetiX and John Deatherage, CMO of Simply NUC.

For the appliance, Simply NUC supplied a mini computer media player called the Intel NUC8 Rugged with a fanless design and its Display Emulation to deliver a second virtual display and persistent displays. Deatherage also said that this player has a configurable storage and operating system for a more flexible solution.

On the OS side, SpinetiX has provided its cloud-based SpentiXArya solution, which is an OS specifically designed for digital signage. This solution natively supports features such as 4K, Wi-Fi and more.

Preston emphasized that Arya can easily integrate a variety of images, pdfs and templates so customers can easily "put something on the screen very quickly."

Preston showcased many features of Arya including media player management and that it comes in a variety of versions, including Arya Discovery, a free service that supports unlimited displays and 1 GB of storage and Premium, which supports more users, templates and tagging.

With the Premium service, administrators can also control how users control content, based on permissions, such as where they can tag content for on individual NUC players.

Preston said that this solution is built specifically to work "out of the box" so customers can easily set up a digital signage solution.
