When it comes to digital signage, one of the most important and difficult decisions to make is which type of display to use. For one, there are many different manufacturers all offering different products. For another, there are many types of displays with varying specifications to choose from.
However, when you break it down on a simple level, there are two main types of displays; LCDs and LEDs. Which one is the best for your project?
This is a question that Samsung addressed during a webinar hosted on Digital Signage Today. Bradley Cooper, editor of Digital Signage Today, moderated the panel, which was sponsored by Samsung and Primsview. The panelists included Ben Sewell, sales manager, spectaculars, display division, Samsung and Kevin Izatt, product manager, LED, Samsung.
During the webinar, Izatt and Sewell addressed a number of key differences between LCD and LED technology, such as colors and contrast. LCDs offer in general a 4,000:1 contrast ratio with its color produced from white light and the LCD itself, while LEDs offer a 20,000:1 contrast ratio with colors produced from direct color output.
The panelists also said that LCDs typically have a brightness of 500 to 700-nits while LEDs offer a brightness of 1,200 to 2,400 nits. Izatt and Sewell brought up other considerations such as:
