Planar intros 98-inch 4K digital signage touch display

New 98-inch digital signage display features 32 touchpoints and optically bonded glass front.

December 15, 2014

Planar Systems Inc., a global provider of display and digital signage technology, has introduced its new Planar UltraRes 98-inch Touch LCD display, which it says is the industry's largest 4K touch display.

The display combines a multitouch, multi-user experience with native ultra-HD resolution, designed to make it possible to interact across a large screen area with clear detail and precision. With 32 simultaneous touchpoints, the display is designed for a wide variety of resolution-rich, collaborative applications including meeting rooms, training facilities and command-and-control centers. It is also designed for interactive digital signage that engages viewers and is rugged for public space reliability.

"Planar has been first to market with a variety of new 4K display solutions, and the Planar UltraRes 98-inch Touch represents another industry milestone," said Becky Connors, product marketing manager at Planar Systems, in the announcement. "With its multitouch support, enhanced durability and sleek design, the display sets the bar for interactive commercial experiences, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to offering the best in 4K technology."

The Planar UltraRes 98-inch Touch expands Planar System's lineup in the ultra-high-definition category, which includes UHD touch and non-touch offerings in 28-, 58-, 65- and 84-inch sizes. The display offers 500-nit brightness, 2D and 3D viewing and a seamless design, "offering the largest touch surface area without bezel disruption," Planar said.

The display also features Planar's Extended Ruggedness and Optics optical bonding technology, which offers added protection for safeguarding the display in high-traffic and long-term-use applications. The bonded glass screen also improves optical performance and touch accuracy by eliminating the air gap between the protective glass and LCD screen. Using the Planar Profile Mounting System, the narrow-bezel screen installs just 4 inches from the wall, making it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

It also utilizes the latest-generation LED backlight technology and passive cooling to achieve maximum energy efficiency, Planar said. It consumes less than 0.5 watts of energy in standby mode, and incorporates a fanless design free from background noise.

The new display is set to be available starting this month through Planar's global network of authorized resellers.
