General DS Processor info

In the Digital signage arena, Intel features 3 levels of processors. Many Proof of Concepts based on these processor solutions were featured at last year’s NRF “Connected Store”., such as Kraft’s next gen meal planning solution, a hybrid vending solution and adidas’ AdiVerse a retail solution, among others.  They are broken up into 3 levels:

  • Basic, with the Intel Atom
  • Mainstream, with the Intel core i5
  • High-end, with the Intel core i7

Each processor offers different levels of energy efficiency, rich media content processing & blending, and at the higher end, remote manageability and Anonymous Video Analytics (AVA). Specifically, some of the differences of each processor are:

Intel® Atom

  • Handles Single-source video/ad content
  • Supports a single-player per screen
  • Limited content blending
  • Low cost, lowest power

Intel® Core i5:

  • Supports rich media content blending and processing
  • Supports audience measurement
  • Allows for remote manageability
  • Handles multi-media playback, dynamic content & interactivity

Intel ® Core i7

  • Can support a wall of high-End displays
  • Extremely interactive & immersive for brands and retailers
  • Supports enhanced AVA Audience Measurement
  • Remotely manages interactive display for advertising and information sharing
